Reply to Trigger Question

by: clash

My Mosquito does have a rather long trigger pull compared to some other .22 pistols I have or shot. I don't think I would like this gun in a clutch situation, but I will keep feeding it the CCI Mini Mags that do so well in it and have a fun time with it. DB, I don't know how much you'll save on ammo cost, but at $7.99 for 100 rounds of CCI sure beats the cost of 50 rounds of heavier lead for bigger guns, although Wal Mart here has 9mm blazer ammo for $8.57 for 50 rounds. Still loving the Mosquito.

Trigger Question?

by: DB

I just purchased the Mosquito on Nov 5 2008; to practice with and save on ammo cost. I was anxious to try it and took it straight to the range after purchasing it. Sales clerk sold me Remington .22 LR Thunderbolt round-nose ammo and the gun jammed every two or three rounds, at least. Was very disappointed and regretting the purchase. Took the gun home, read the manual, field stripped, cleaned and lubricated. Purchased CCI Mini Mag ammo and fired about 100 rounds. The gun fired like a champ the next time out, with only one shell not being ejected. The only thing I am concerned about is that the trigger has to travel far into the back of the trigger guard before it will fire. I was wondering if that is normal and if anyone else has the same problem? I have to use the tip of my finger to squeeze the trigger hard to get it to fire. Nothing like my CZ 9mm. Barely squeeze the trigger and it fires. Happy Shooting!

Sig Mosquito made me worried

by: clash

Purchased my first Sig Saturday. Fired it that at my brothers house with his Federal ammo he uses in his Walther. The Mosquito jammed nearly every time through every magazine. Needless to say, I was very worried. Brought the gun home and CLEANED it!!! I went back today (Sunday) and fired 600 rounds of CCI Mini Mag HP's with 0 problems. I also tried 100 Remington Yellow Jacket HP's and had several that did not eject. I came home with 40 in the box as well as other brands that did not fire well and will be left for the rifles. While writing this, I got the urge to try again and fired 100 more rounds of CCI Mini Mags off the back deck with 0 problems. I love this gun but dislike it's picky nature for ammunition.

Sig Mosquito

by: Mindach

I have to say I Love it! I bought it because I wanted a trainer. This is my first Sig so I was unsure. I also own a Ruger MII .22 and sever others. I bought the Mosquito, cleaned it well and took it to the range. It shot great 2" groups at 50' and I could no get it to jam. I started with Remington Golden Bullets, Tried Federal Premium, then (because I have a friend at www.popguns.com I got a hand full of mixed lot leftover .22s, They all worked! After an hour of firing my only misfires were were bent rounds. Cleaning and break-in is a must, but this is one FUN gun! Update; It broke! Trigger malfunctioned and it went back to the factory. I'll post the results Mindach

Since my last enty, I field stripped the gun and really gave it a good scrubbing with CLP. After that, I sprayed everything with Gunscrubber and removed all residue. I used the oil supplied by SIG in the case with the gun and lightly oiled the rails of receiver and slide. When I reassembled the gun, I used the heavier recoil spring. Went to range yesterday with CCI Minimags (36 grain hollowpoints) and CCI Stingers (32 grain hollowpoints). I am pleased to announce that there were no malfunctions of any kind with this ammo. The Stingers were noticeably more powerful (felt recoil & report). I fired 150 rounds (total) of slow aimed fire, and rapid (as fast as I could pull the trigger) and there were no problems. What a difference from my previous experiences. Not ready yet to give it a 5 star rating, but now I think I'll keep this gun. I hope this helps with those of you who have had the same problems.

Bought the Sig instead of the Beretta because of the reputation for quality and reliability. Boy was I disappointed!! Tried with several different types of ammo, jammed with them all. Haven't given up yet, thouroughly cleaned will try again.

First SIG I have owned. It was recommended by a friend. I was not sure what to expect after reading some of the postings. All in all, I like it. I have only tried Remington Gold and Federal Bulk ammo. Remington Gold work good, but the first two rounds off each clip loaded with Federals failed to chamber. The Federals seem to be a little longer than the Remington Gold. With the Remington gold I had 6 fail to fires out of 100 rounds (usually have that many with my Taurus revolver). So far I like it; hopefully with more rounds it will become even better. ALF

I just purchased my Mosquito this week and REALLY love it. I was somewhat concerned about jams, etc., from reading several reviews. When I mentioned this to the gun shop owner he said that he has had zero complaints. Anyway, I have fired about 400 rounds of various ammo and the only one that does not work for me is Federal Lightning. It loves Remington Hi-Speed. As with all auto loads, they can be sensitive to different ammo. Have a brick of CCI that I have not tried yet but am very confident that it will work. Really love this gun. Rutgers

by: bealza

love the feel, love the idea that it's a trainer for larger pistols, I think I'm already shooting tighter with my .45. BUT! what is with it jamming on the second to the last round every clip? the second to the last round will go in halfway and i have to eject the clip just a little bit to get it to chamber and the last round has a giant gouge in the top of it. what am i doing wrong? oh and hey you guys know if i can get a dao variant or whatever you want to call it like i did for my h&k?

Sig misquito

by: JT

This is my first experience with a Sig. They have a good reputation, visual appeal and in general an excellent reputation. However, something is wrong with the Misquito! I followed the enclosed instructions, cleaning CCI mini mags and quite a few other shells. (Remington, Winchester, CCI Stingers, Mini mags, Federals - hollow points, round nose 1070 fps ect.and even bought another 35 dollar sig magazine as it appears to be part of the problem. I have changed the spring with different ammo but nothing seems to keep this gun from jamming. I have had rounds wedge in the magazine ( I even polished it) to extracting but not feeding and normal jamming. I am really glad that I own Walthers as I do not have problems with the P-22. I don't know what I will do with this gun but tinker with it and see if I can get it working properly as nothing is more frustrating than a loaded gun that needs to be fixed. If anyone knows of a secret to making the misquito work, please write it up for all of us. It does say made in Germany not China!

I recenly purchased a Sig mosquito. The threaded barrel TAC model. From the box, I cleaned and lubed the gun with oil and a teflon lub as per directions. I've put 300 + rounds thru it (Federal 36 gr, HP, 1260 FPS) No problems with slow or rapid fire. cleaned 1 x at 80 rounds. Love it and so does my doughter. Would give it a 5 star but only shot 300 + rounds so far.

Big time Fun gun

by: Andy

This gun is so much fun. It is smooth and just a blast to shoot. I tell you Sig makes such a great product and this gun is right there with the rest of them as far as quality goes and it is so much fun to shoot. Of all my 22's this gun even with the counter weight on the front end it is still one of the easier to strip and clean. Great gun at a great price. Can not go wrong with this one

Sig Mosquito

by: Macman

I have never owned a Sig firearm before, but I bought the Mosquito because it was small and felt good in my hand. The first time I fired this gun I was using cheap ammo and it jammed on ever shot. I went home and changed the spring in the gun and bought CCI mini-mag ammo. The next time I fired this gun it jammed a lot less, but still too often. I fired it a third time and didn't have a jamming problem until I put in another kind of ammo besides CCI-mini-mag. This gun is very picky about ammo. If I had to buy another pistol tomorrow I don't think it would be a Sig Arms. They were supposed to have a good reputation, but after my experience with this gun I would not buy another one.

Reliable trainer

by: Rain Dragon

Only owned my Mosquito a week but so far it is very reliable. I followed Sig instructions, (1) cleaned it before first shooting, (2) used CCI Mini-mag. I put over 500 rounds through it without a single problem. It is designed to be a tactical trainer not a target pistol, but at 25 yrds it is as accurate as my Browning Buck Mark. A lot easier to clean than the Buck Mark.

by: glock owner

Bought the sig 3-10-08. When I first tried this gun it performed well for about first 100 rounds then it started to have the extraction problems. I was using remington golden bullets, Big mistake! Found out that they put a coating on their shells. Gave the sig a good cleaning especially around extractor and around the fireing pin area. Then loaded up with CCI mini mags. This gun now performs well and I am quite pleased. Also there is a small hole on the side of the slide to lubricate the extractor. I hope to get this gun working even better with good cleanings and finding the right ammo.

Excellent Trainer

by: Notacop

The Mosquito is a great trainer. I have read a lot of reviews, some good, some bad. What I have found is that most people need to have realistic expectations. The Mosquito is NOT a really good defensive weapon. It is not a "carry gun". It is not a Sig P226. It is not an Olympic match pistol. Let's face it, a 22 will stop a rabbit, not a person; so a comparison to a P226, Glock, 1911, etc. is not realistic. The Mosquito is a fun, economical training pistol that you take to the range and practice with. It is reasonably accurate, easy to use, and can help you be more controlled accurate with larger guns. Like all semi-auto pistols, it does require cleaning and maintenance. Cleaning for a Mosquito means actually cleaning the bore, frame, slide, barel, mag, etc., not just spraying with gun scrubber and wiping with a t-shirt. If you like the Mosquito's look and feel. Buy it and enjoy it. I love mine.

Mosquito coil

by: Sig E. Lang

I have put over 200 rounds through the mosquito and have no problem with it. I use the recommended CCI mini mags, just cost a bit more but still cheap to shoot compare to bigger caliber ammo. The only issue I have is that it comes with one 10 rd magazine and and spare is very costly. Another issue is that there a lot of play on the trigger otherwise it's a very good shooter. I picked this 'cause I have a P226 also.

Sig Mosquito vs S&W 22a

by: Curt

Haven't had a bit of a problem with my sg 22. I have always shot viper, CCI Stingers. I had bought a S&W 22a and had all kinds of feed problems. (P.O.S.) the grips were terrible and I paid $70 for the wooden target grips which were so much larger I was temped to start carving on them. Traded the 22a for the Mosquito with the sig red dot and maybe because the gunsmith did a more complete initial cleaning, but haven't had one failure to feed except when I tried 22 short! Great gun to practice for my Sig 239 carry piece.

Sig Mosquito

by: LJ

It looks like I'm the odd man out. I bought my mosquito at the end of '07. Have put several hundred rounds through the thing without a hitch. The initial cleaning wasn't even that good and it still operated without a problem. I'm using the heavy spring and have found only one brand of ammo that wouldn't feed well. It's a fun little pistol and much cheaper to shoot than the 45. I've heard there have been many problems with the pistol and maybe I just got lucky. Anyway, I'm looking for another as my wife won't let me shoot this when we are together. The only thing I'm really concerned with is the trigger. It looks and feels like plastic and I feel it will wear out sooner than it should. One other gripe would be the 10 round magazine. Couldn't they have made it to hold at least 15? Otherwise I am very pleased with the weapon. I'm sorry to hear so many are having problems with it.

Mosquito

by: CAPT D

Accurate, good looking & handling but as reliable as a broken watch!! Hoping Sig will stand behind their reputation on this one! It wont fire 3 rounds in a row w/ any kind of ammo!! Jams in multiple ways! It goes to them tommorrow

Sig Mosquito

by: NoMoreMosquitoBites

I purchased this pistol to use as a plinker. I've tried several kinds of ammo, and it consistently fails to pull cartridges from the magazine. Frequently it fails to extract the spent case, and once and awhile it will feed the cartridge about half way between the mag and the chamber folding it in half. After shooting Rugers for years, this gun sucks. Did I mention the horrible trigger? It's currently on its way back to Sig.

by: magnum_49

I am, sure you will not post to your site. But I am unhappy with this gun. I own four other sig pistols, and I would carry them to hell and back. I am an ex Vietnam vet, love my guns and hope to buried with them. I have returned this gun to you and I was told it needed to be cleaned and the wrong screw was put into the slide at the factory, also I should use CCI Mini Mag ammo. Well ok, I did all this and it still is not relieable, not that I would carry this for defense. This gun sucks, I bought it because my other pistols from you are excellant. Love my sigs but I do hate there little brother. Anyway, I will keep it and maybe one day it will work the correct way. Still a Believer in Sig Pistols, John
